The First Virtual Grand National 2020

As I write this, we’re in unprecedented times, dealing with the Coronavirus epidemic. British horseracing has been suspended for the last few weeks, as the country attempts to slow the pandemics relentless march.

In true British spirit, the Grand National will go ahead on Saturday 4th April 2020 at 5pm. Unlike previous years, when real riders and real horses enter the gruelling race, this year will be a virtual affair. With backing of the Betting and Gaming Council along with the support of the largest bookmaking firms, this virtual event will be televised as normal on ITV 1.

We’ll see the return of Aintree’s most recognized event, as the 40 runners and riders go to post. Clearly the race has already been prerecorded, with the outcome known to a few select insiders, who’re sworn to secrecy, as well as being in lock down like the rest of us.

It’s unlikely that any jiggery pokery will occur though, as bookmaking firms have maximum stakes of £10 win per horse or £10 each way. The profits of which will be distributed across 140 separate NHS charities. It’s the first time we’ll bet for a good cause, and those NHS guys and gals certainly need the help currently.

Big respect and thank you for all your efforts on our behalf.

Any Tips

As this is a virtual race, there’s nothing in the way of form to go on. The race must be seen as a little bit of fun for a good cause. Anything can, and probably will happen. I think I’ll have a small dutch bet, as a break from Covid-19 and also helping the NHS.

Enjoy the CGI representations of the most likely runners of the real race. Hopefully you’ll back a winner, good luck!
